July 4th Festival - Golden Lions Park
The Golden Lions Club is organizing and will be hosting the 4th of July community celebration in Lions Park again this year. This is one of the major ways for the Lions to give back to the Golden community and our country. Activities starting at noon include free rides for the kids, face painting, music provided by several bands throughout the day, and a large fireworks display in the evening. The celebration is designed to be a day for families, friends and neighbors to get together at the beautiful park on 10th Street to picnic or purchase food and drink and enjoy all the festivities.
Bands scheduled for this year include:
- 12:00 - 3:00: Thunder and Rain (Bluegrass/Americana)
- 3:30 - 6:00: Kerry Pastine and the Crime Scene (Rockabilly)
- 6:30 - 9:15: Ryan Chrys & the Rough Cuts (Modern Outlaw Country)
In order to be able to provide free rides and music and entertainment, Golden Lions will be selling raffle tickets starting in May. Proceeds from ticket sales are used for the most part to fund the event, and any excess goes back into community betterment projects. It is also a way for the community to support the Lions and what they do to make Golden a great place to live, from building the public restroom on 12th Street to dugouts at Ulysses Park and awarding scholarships to seniors at Golden High School. For $5 each or five tickets for twenty dollars, you get a chance to win one of about 100+ prizes ranging from overnight stays at mountain casinos to the grand prize of $1000 donated by the Lions Club. Also, the tickets are printed with coupons that can be used for discounts with local merchants. You don't have to be present to win. Winners are announced throughout the day with the grand-prize winner identified just before the fireworks. Most of the raffle prizes are donated by local merchants and businesses as their way of supporting the event and the community.
The event is truly a community celebration and get-together supported by residents who buy raffle tickets and attend, the City which provides security and traffic control as well responsibility for the fireworks, businesses which provide the raffle prizes, and the Golden Lions who put it all together. So when you see those guys in front of local businesses or at the Golden Farmers Market in their festive gold vests with raffle tickets in hand, make sure you become part of the celebration and buy some tickets. Most of all, come to Lions Park and have fun on the 4th of July!
