The Golden Lions Club honors Lion Bill for his contributions not only to our club but his service to Golden as a whole. But Bill was indeed a legendary Lion. He joined the Golden Lions in 1977, served as club President in 1987-1988, was named Lion of the Year in 1990, and was awarded the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship in 2000. He served as Secretary of our club for almost 20 years, from 1990 until his death. More than these honors, though, Bill embodied the spirit of our club and passed it on inspiringly to its members. Bill was part coach, part older brother, part scold, part mentor, part truant officer, part raconteur, part handyman. Like Red Green, Bill knew that duct tape is man's best friend, and he always had plenty by his side. He is remembered as a great neighbor, a "green thumb" extraordinaire and as "Mr. Buffalo Bill Days." We will miss his booming voice during the Buffalo Bill Days parade, his good humor in good times as well as bad, and the twinkle in his eye when he smiled. Our lives are richer for having known this fine man.
Requiescat in pace, friend Billy.
